Physion segfaults on Ubuntu unless run as root. Also xdg-open just opens the desktop file in gedit, rather than launching the app. In addition, it needs:

INST_PATH=`echo $(readlink -f $0) | sed "s/$(basename $0)//g"`
cd $INST_PATH

to Run.sh so that you are in the current directory when executing Physion, which allows the app to load from the relative path in your launch script.

Any ideas on the segfault? Am guessing you're hitting something that a regular user doesn't have permission to touch, but hard to tell.

Hi jnetman1,

It is a known issue that Physion does not register its own file extension. This will be fixed in the newest version.

Regarding the relative path, we are working on fixig that as well. One solution is to not have a folder for your scenes in the same folder as your installation. The most likely candidate is a newly created folder in your home directory.

Finally, as for the segfaults crash, we haven't run into this problem. I agree that it seems that Physion is touching something that has no permission for it, but that is not enough information to help us investigate.

We'll definitely have an eye on it, but if you can give us more information, that would speed things up.

Thank you,
pek

When is a new version coming out anyway?

We are working on the new Physion 2.0 version which is a total revamp of 1.0. Unfortunately, it'll take some time. Could be over 6 months. We will, however, provide a means for users to try out Beta builds before we release it, but we are still figuring out how to do so. There is a very slim chance that we will release 1.1, but because we don't have enough time to work on both, we are currently concentrating on 2.0.

There will also be a completely new website in about 2 weeks (or sooner) that will provide all the new information.
